if you short the sender wire does the guage work? it should slowly move to fuel if the wiring and guage are working correctly. ( Ignition on if it normally reads empty with ignition off). If the guage doesnt move most likely faulty sender.

disconnect the wiring at the sender and earth out the wire or loop the terminals together at the connector just make a short jump wire, ( looping the wires may not give you a result if the earth wire is your problem best to short to earth ) you may have to wait 20- 30 secs for the guage to move. Good luck

what? dont you mean if the guage does move you have a faulty sender?
i would short between the 2 terminals of the wires going to the sender first then if the gauge dosent work then i would short to ground

you are correct, my mistake, the guage or wiring would most likely be faulty if the needle didnt move. If it did the sender would be the issue. Cheers

i found that right before the rear sub tank, theres a connector join. The connector on the side running to the battery is a 3 way connector with 3 cables going into it. The connector running from the fuel tank is a 3 way connector with only 2 cables running out of it. Am i missing an earth from the fuel tank side?? I looked where the cables go into the tank and only 2 go in, so its not like theres a broken cable somewhere.

no there is only 2 wires to the rear tank the 3rd one would be if it had a fuel light on the rear tank and they dont, did you bridge the wires and see if the gauge moved?
