Which manual box (FS5R50) is stronger, GQ or GU? I know the GU TD's had problems blowing 5th gear, haven't heard of any dramas with GQ's though.
Thinking about putting an LS1 in the Maverick, and my ZD might be loosing its driveline to go with it.

Also what is the better LS1 conversion kit, Marks or Dellow? What are the upsides and downsides to each?

Mate as far as I know the 4.8 manual out of the later gu`s are the toughest and also have a nice close ratio for good changes.Td 42`s arn`t any slouch though by any means and if you could get a low k one that would easly handle ls1 for sure. The drama with 5th gear was only with early gu boxs and was somthing stupid like a plastic dowl that faild.3ltr don`t have any expirence with and I`f you like I`m sure cory is selling his manual conversion out of his race car and she`s a Whipple supercharged 6ltr monster ..Cheers Billy

Dellows kit is the bet by far. uses a single piece replacement bellhousing, just need a custom clutch.

Marks use a spacer adapter plate, flywheel spacer/dual flywheel arrangement. From reports they constantly come loose and vibrate.

Only downside to dellows is the firewall needs a small adjustment with a hammer.

How much 'adjustment' does the firewall need? Got any picts?
What do you need for the custom clutch? Will the LS1 flywheel and pressure plate with a Nissan clutch plate do the trick?

Hey, its approx 1in behind the top of each head. Sorry no pics at the moment.

I just buy the clutch from Nicks performance clutches (NPC) in brisbane. I beleive it is a custom drilled flywheel, Dodge V10 pressure plate, and nissan clutch plate.

Not sure if you could use the LS1 pressure plate or not.

Yup we are using the Dodge viper pressure plate arrangment and it works well .It`s even nice and smooth to use, much better than the old brass button setups.

What's the benefit of the Viper plate over a Commodore Exedy Sports Tuff plate or a Patrol Safari Tuff plate?
