turbo difference

will a turbo of a 2ltr petrol 4cyl be able to be used on a 3.3 turbo diesle motor
AFAIK it should be able to be used, all depends on turbo specs etc.
I heard somewhere that a turbo that suits a 2ltr petrol engine will work on a diesel engine up to approximately 4ltr capacity.
Could be wrong though.
