Do up a detailed list of every cost involved; Remember to include every possible thing involved.
Then double it!

i don't know much about engine conversions, but what i do know is when i went to buy a patek basher with a fuw friends at the local reckers there was a VN Commodore with back end damage, now the engine was fine and started and sounded besty, the guy was seling it for 800 with all the bits but you had to take the engine out your self other wise he wanted 200 to take it out and 300 to put it in a hilux so D.I.Y it. you will probly lern heaps about it and plus if any thing went wroung with the engine you would be able to fix it your self
other wise there's cheap VN commodore in the trading post ranging from 1000 to 5000, that you could say the motor is better looked after.
cheers

Well heres a list from a guy thats in the middle of doing it and has no connections.
Marks adapter gear
-Adapter
-Shifter mounting kit
-Engine Mounts
-Tacho interface
-Interface wiring loom
-Vehicle Speed Sensor
-Oil pressure adapter
-Water Temp Adapter
Marks gear total $2250
Engine+loom+ECU $900
T700 Automatic Gearbox $125
Auto rebuild $650
(may aswell do this as the
output shaft has to be changed)
Rebuilt torque converter $200
New diesel radiator $275
New fuel pumps (high and low P) $200 (aprox)
TOTAL $4600
This is where im at now. This does not include engine rebuild, exhaust system,Thermo fans, auto oil cooler, surge tank, engineering, injector clean, all the hoses, nuts, bolts, filters and all other incidentals. Some of the prices above a pretty damn cheap too(I think anyway) but thats what I got em for. Im doing all the assembly myself and getting a mate to do the welding.
Of course you can do things cheaper. Such as not use new parts such as the radiator. And depending on how much fiddling you wanna do you can do stuff like make your own engine mounts, shifter kit, wiring loom etc. he fact of the amtter is is there are alot of people that are proud to say "hey I did mine for 2500-4000 dollars". The reason that they are so eager to mention this is because they know it is so cheap. But unless they want to share every little secret of theirs with you and help you build it its not much help to the average joe.
I can tell you though that there was a full marks v6 conversion including everything (engine adapters ecu everything) at Salisbury Wreckers in Brisbane not long ago. He offerd it to me for 3500 but im sure he could be talked down. I actually heard of it being offered to someone for 2000 but that could just be a rumour. I did talk to someone though that said the engine is worn and that the they would swap it for another if asked.
Hope I helped
John
