Throttle Position Sensor?

I've got an 89 GQ fuel injected petrol patty, and I've noticed that my revs are sitting slightly higher than usual, and also whilst driving, very rarely the car skips? not big, just little.
and I have a slight loss of power, I've changed my spark plugs and leads, and my fuel filter, I had a mechanic suggest my clutch, but a friend suggested the throttle position sensor..
Do you just clean it? or would it be wiser to replace it, Im hoping it doesn't cost a bomb..
that's if this is the problem..
any suggestions?

Test it ? It will have 2 plugs on it one is for engine management the other for auto trans . Three terminals in the Socket on the body of it , 1 common , 1 idle and 1 full throttle . You should have a circuit between 2 of the terminals at idle and at full throttle . The plug on the lead on the side of the sensor is for the trans it has a variable resistor in it and will need to have a smooth resistance ohms test when the throttle is moved through its range . You will be best of with a mechanic or auto elec if you don't have a multimeter and some knowledge on setting it as they can be adjusted and rarely fail.

FYI a new TPS from Bursons = $199
and one from Nissan = $189.
You can clean them and they do stick a bit from time to time. I used carby cleaner and then some spray on lithium grease to lubricate and wipe away excess.
Or you can look on evilbay, you will need to revome your TPS and type in the part number, which can be found on the metal mounting plate eg: A22 643 (93EFI). There are a number of other Nissans that use the same TPS like the D21, D22 and Pathfinder. As you will see when you do yyour search they are considerably cheaper. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
