Hi.
Fairly new to all this. Have only owned a zook. Looking at a 99 Lux 3L Diesel.
Looks all ok. A few little things need to be fixed. Little tears in seat and the likes but the only thing that makes me think is the KMS. 378000.
No leaks. No real rattles a little noisy (but I expect this). Have been told it is mostly hi way km's. travels 750km a month.
Good price. Anyone see any problems? Cheers heaps in advance.
J.

Is it a solid front axel or IFS?
I have a '94 dual cab that I bought a year ago for $5k. It has 360km on it but the engine was replaced when the previous owner cooked the original. The motor was replaced with one from a wrecker so unsure how many k's total.
The body and drive train on mine are fine and I have been told that the 3L motor can last a lot longer the 360k as long as the oil is changed every 5000k's and you don't let it overheat.
I wouldn't be put off by the k's as long as the price is good. Obviously you will need to look for rust.

The k's are high for the year so the price should reflect that, regardless of where it was driven.

The main thing you need to look for with the 3l, or any indirect injection diesel is wether it has overheated. It doesn't take much to crack the head on those and once that happens you'll be chasing overheating problems. Second is 5k service intervals. Not 10k. With proper servicing you can get 450-500k out of a 3l, but at that point it will be a bit smokey and down on power.

Depending on what sort of driving you want to do the ifs will hold you back with 4wding. Just thought I'd chuck in if you weren't sure.

Depends alot on the price. No it depends completely on the price so I'd say $7-8k with those kms would be the going rate provided it was in good running order. Any less would be good buying imo.

Yes 99 model is IFS which means no flex and lifting tyres. Pretty good price for the car you are looking at, you can always sas it later on-solid axle swap. Depends how into 4wding you get.

yes ifs, you will notice a reduction in offroad ability compared to a zuk. but depends on what you like you drive as to whether or not that is an issue.

the hilux engine will happily do over those ks, but many don't. for 6k its probably good value if its in good condition.

By the way 750 a month is not much - only 10,000 km per year or 120,000km during its life. it would have needed to average over 2500km per month its entire life to get that many k's on it.

ask them about its service history, don't prompt them about interval periods wait and see what they say. if they have known about its need for 5000km intervals they will point out that they do that. If it hasn't had that, i would think its a bit long in the tooth. but its fairly cheap.

Perhaps considering its km it would be worth getting a look over by a pro for a little cash, as if something goes wrong it will blow the budget.

Also remember it will soon have over 400,000 km on it. how hard will it be to sell when the time comes?

This is a picture of what I am talking about. It appears that the rubber has cracked and it rattling. What is it? Do I need it?

Have a look at this link and see if it works because I don't know how to post pictures on here.

Can't see the pic due to security restrictions.
Open a photobucket account (or similar) and use that to link pics - it's free

Mate, Ive got the exact same Hilux, 99 Single cab non turbo diesel 3.0L 5L engine...They are def IFS and are very limited when it comes to liftkits etc. Pretty good price, i got mine for 13000 from dealership which had 2 inch suspension lift, extractors, snorkel, water tank, and 245000kms. Ive recon'd the engine as it blew at 258000kms, put a new starter, new rear uni joint, new battery, and am putting new shocks in it.

Unbreakable if you dont do much 4x4ing, but when u start the mudbashing...you break shit trust me on that.

Mines for sale if you interested, im lookin to get somewhere what I paid for it, considering the recon'd engine and other stuff done.

Hope this helps mate

Cheers
