NL Pajero - Transfer Case

It seems as if I have oil leaking from the gearbox into the transfer case. I need to buy a new sew for the transfer case input shaft and fit it. Does anyone know if you can separate the transfer case from the gearbox without removing the main gearbox first?

yes you can,

the guys that put in my 3.15 gears were able to drop the transfer case without taking out the transmission.

Thanks Sharpe for your reply. I was hoping for others, but they don't seem to be forthcoming. I'll let you know when the TX case comes out. By the way, who did your transfer case mods? I'd like to talk with them about doing mine.

the guys that did the NL are Nash Offroad in Mitchell ACT.

did a great job, that was 5 years now.

Thanks for the info. I have contacted both the numbers and Auto Torque said that they had to take the gearbox out and then dismantle. 9 Hrs work Ouch! However, I can see that it would be a difficult job to do it leaving the main gearbox in place. Are you sure that Nash Off-Road did the job without removing the gearbox? Was your NL a manual or auto? Mine is a manual gearbox.

mine is auto & yes Nash off road did not remove the tranny, I actually was there when they had the case out as they had buggered a bearing & I went over there to see the damage.

Auto Torque said that they preferred to take the tranny & case out as one unit as it was easier , in their opinion.

I dont reckon that there would be much time difference in leaving the tranny in than takeing it all out as one unit, but you are right there is a lot of labour involved.
