hey all,
Im currently in the process of rebuilding my 1hz, with a turbo. I know ive heard that its a recipe for disasaster, but im taking as many precautions as i can to try make it last. What ive heard of is people running intercoolers to drop the heat, ive purchased a water to air intercoooler, and have a 12v electiric water pump. The problem is i know i need another small radiator/ heat exchange but i have no idea where to place it, if anyone has done this before, or photos of this done, or any advice. anything will be great as im trying to get this car all back 2gether before the 3rd of july as i have a hunting trip to go on!
cheers chris

Mine is beside the toolbox against the headboard of my tube tray. Running an electric fan and water pump under the cab. If you go a decent little aluminium one it doesn't need to be all that big. I'm actually not all that convinced of the efficiacy of most of the W2A intercoolers except for maybe the one's made by a dude on here using a finned insert tube thingy (can't remember the name right now) If you can fit it i'd probably recommend the front mount air to air instead. Less complex and proven results.

Chris,
I have a 1hz in a 105 series. Turboed and W2A intercooled. Nearly 100k of smooth, problem free motoring, and I can't be happier with the improvement in performance.
I run 11psi boost and always keep and eye on my EGT''s. I have had the boost comp. added to the pump, and recalibrated by a diesel place in eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
My intercooler radiator I got from Allied Heat exhangers and have posted some pics below of the setup.

Like the set up cam. I'm looking to do an interccoler set up on my HZJ105 and was leaning towards the water to air set up.
Have been looking at these http://www.frozenboost.com/index.php?cPath=216" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
What brand of intercooler is yours?
Do you need a fan on the heat exchanger?

Matt,
The intercooler is from NZ, and is built to suit a 80 series.
http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails ... uctID=1344" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There was only two small modifications i had to do.
I cut the top radiator cap off and tapped a hole for a plug with dowty seal,
and I welded a boss on the rear water outlet to turn the outlet 90 degress as you can see from the photos.

Yes I am running a fan and thermo switch on the intercooler radiator. I have upload a few extra photos to photobucket. The fan is a low profile Spall or Davies craig (can't remember), with a 40dgree temp switch on the inlet.

Recently I have had to fabricate some new strengthened intercooler mounts as the ones supplied from NZ cracked and broke. I can post some pics if you want.
Let me know if you want more info.
Cheers
Cam
