I have a 95 triton 3 ltr it is starting to blow smoke when I move off after idling at the lights. Only a small amount and it stops straight away. I assume it is the o rings. A local mechanic quoted $800+ then said it is most likely the valve guides gone also with a price of $3500 to $4000 This seems a huge amount? Anyone got any thoughts on this?

It will be the valve stem seals that are causing the smoke problem. I'm guessing your mechanic has quoted to replace them without removing the heads.
Valve guides may be worn, which is probably accelerating the wear on the seals. However, for $3500 to $4000 I would expect a full engine rebuild. But then again, I'm a cheapskate.

Yes you are right the quote was without removing the heads. What would be the result of A just replacing the valve stem seals and then finding the valve guides have gone and B doing nothing? would this result in damage eventually? Also what is the going price for a recon 3ltr v6
