7" ebay GPS and install your own maps as well as Oziexplorer CE. Much cheaper. And will do both on-road and off-road.
Well it is cheaper if you already have the maps.

I know people that have tried to do this and wasted $350 and still not getting anywhere. ITs not quite as easy as it sounds particularly if you dont really know what your doing.

From what i hear both are good, but the Hema support trumps..

We ahd a few members buy one of the ebay cheapies, it's difficult to get Ozi loaded but once it's going it works a treat.

Cheers

Extract it to the SD card. Put card in GPS. Turn GPS on. If it doesnt have a lable for it. Goto Nav menu, change what the nav button looks for. Just a matter of searching for it in a menu.
Little bit of stuffing around. But the $$$ difference are well worth it.

As far as HEMA vs VMS, ive seen a full demo on each in person at the 4wd expo. I actually went there with my heart set on it, and the cash to walk away with a HEMA.
At one point i asked the guy if that was all the detail the map had, and he replied with "if you want more detail, you need to buy another SD card from HEMA loaded with more detailed topo's and its $250"
I walked away thinking of how much of a pile of shit it is for the price tag.

The VMS is way better value for money and a better user interface. HEMA is hyped up too much.

I actually bought a Garmin 450t, top of the Garmin range at the time, it has better maps on it than HEMA, way more detail and is more versatile for the way roll. The toss up was between it and the VMS, but the Garmin's drawcard was its handheld, it might be smaller but i can ride, walk drive with it on me anytime i want.
Full car kit cost me about $50 which made the whole deal come to less than $700.
But if i was to have a sole vehicle mounted system it would be the VMS.

I dont know where you go that info from Wozza but you can load pretty much anything you want onto the hema .... the SD cards are for 1:25000 for memory map but you can get much cheaper and better mapping for Ozi. I just did a whole heap of research into it :)
