Question,
Do I need to remove the axle to replace a wheel stud on the rear RHS wheel? Can I simply as a mate suggests bash the broken stud with a hammer to knock it out.
Has not happened yet, but rear wheel was loose could see 6 threads of one stud , 3 on another and 2 other wheel nuts were loose and one nut/stud was still fairly thight.
Am a long way from home and hope to get home with another wheel and tyre and tight wheel nuts.
But would like to know, what to do just in case.

Have a punch and heavy hammer to do the job and could grind the face of the broken stud to make it easier for the punch.

Am wary of bending the axle, by bashing out the broken stud.

Yet to buy the studs

You're better off taking the hub off the car and supporting it as you knock the studs out, otherwise you may bend the hub. And you're better off knocking them back in rather than pulling them in with the wheel nuts, strong possibility you can strip the nut/stud.

If your talking wheel studs not axle studs then just hammer them back through, piece of piss. The new ones (get genuine only) are about $8 each I think. Just line them up from behind and use a pry bar to get them through. Shouldnt require anything more than removing the wheel. Make sure the car is on the ground securely might take a good reef on the pry bar to put them in.

Do you have alloys?

Disassemble the hub from the axle and use a press to install the studs properly.

Thanks for your replies, have been out of Next G Range so could not longon with the phone/Laptop.
Am only looking at replacing the wheel studs, if out in the bush and have no option.

" Just line them up from behind and use a pry bar to get them through." What tpe of Pry bar eg similar to a carpenters Nail remover? I thought 3 or 4 washers and a flat nut whould get them to seat more firmly.

The pry bar I used was about a foot and a half long.
