Gday there I bought a '97 GQ nissan patrol 2.8ltr turbo diesel  after years of wanting one, and now the head has cracked :?

I know theres many options like just replacing the head, But i got in doin that i could end up blowing out the rings and needing a new engine anyway,
Another option is replacing the whole engine as these engines are as rare as hens teeth, i was wondering if an '86 2.9ltr would bolt up or not? as i can easily get my hands on one of these.

Any help or theorys would be great so I can get my baby back on the road again :-) :smilecolros:

An 86' 2.9 probably wouldn't meet the emissions that are required for a 1997?

only mention i can find of a 2.9 in a patrol of that year is the LD28T diesel stroked to 2.9.
otherwise the nearest is the 2.8 petrol motors or '86 might have been the first of the RD28T which i assume is the engine you have.

Don't waste your time. 4.2 or better I reckon. What vehicle has the 2.9 anyway?
