Im having drama's with my Autometre pyro gauge in my ute its been in the ute for the past 2 years with no drama's and lately from time to time it's been flickering like there is a short or something when u turn either the lights, aircon, brake lights or anything that uses power but it doesnt do it all the time, its like the gauge seems to loose power but the gauge returns to zero when i turn the high beam on its got me
what it could be maybe voltage regulator or something along those lines any help is greatly appreciated
cheers Ian

Best to test the power & earth at the back of pyro and see where the problem is as it may be the power side or earth side . you can use a test light but a multimeter is better as you can make sure you have at least battery voltage at the guage when the problem occures , also check the earth cable to the body from the battery as it may still be attached to the engine but the body is not getting an earth so when you power up the headlights it drops out due to lack of earth hope this makes sense & good luck

I'll give it a go mate and go from there ive checked the alternator and underload with headlights and spotlights on with gauge flickering its charging at 13.6volts and with nothing turned on its charging at around 14.0volts at idle not too sure what its supposed to charge at

Yeh seems your alternator is doing a good job but you must check the voltage at the pyro guage when the fault is occuring . Did you check the earth strap to the body ?

Ive tried a few different things and still no luck ive looked at earth straps disconnected my dual battery systrem to see if its faulty i havent checked the current coming out of the back of the gauge yet when it plays up as its usually when im going on a trip or its just a bad time to try and check the voltage out the back of the gauge, ive disconnected the sub tank pump at the moment to see if its the pump shorting out

mine had the same problem, and was slow on the starter motor. turned out to be the earth lead from the body to the thermostate housing, replaced it with good cable and made a massive difference.
i allreaddy had another earth from the body to the intake manifold, but must not have been earthing correctly through gaskets etc??
either way check that becuase it made a massive difference on mine.

I ran a second earth from the main battery to the motor and hasnt done it since so im hoping thats all it is

well ive run a new earth from main battery to the engine and a earth from the second battery to the body, the pyro gauge hasnt played up but the sub tank light still comes on well once which stops me from pumping fuel across and the sub tank gauge is playing up it will read correctly then it will say its empty then read full again im thinking of running another earth near the sub tank pump
