well i have heard that it aint a 4.5..... it's 4.8 apparently it's already here in australia and they are testing it it's rumoured to have over 180kw and over 660 Nm some of the reason why they are testing this is because the damn thing keeps on breaking axles and diff centers and i believe the figueres abover are detuned figures..
Your all probably wondering how i know... well when i was purchasing my new Gu i kept on asking questions about this so called new model they dont even know but Nissan people told me their are new model coming out but no new patrol maybe in 2006 but they cant say.
I got all this information from someone at nissan in melbourne (blackburn dealership) so it may be true or may not their are heaps of rumours going around.
cheers

Its not often we would get the engine before any other model in any other country, and as far as i know nissan dont have any new 4.5l or 4.8l 6cyl turbo diesel engines.
I searched for TD45, TD48, ZD45, ZD48 and got nothing.
A ZD45 would be exactly a ZD30 x 1.5 = ZD45.
We can only hope.
I am in japan in a week and a half so i will see what i can find out.

If they do bring a new 4.5 or 4.8ltr diesel it would prob be high-tec. Not bush friendly. The prob is the new diesels need good fuel. Not a prob if you stay close to the city but could be a prob if doing outback stuff. I've bought the current TD-6 which after 35,000 kms is going great. Did a trip to Flinders Rangers the other week and got 13l/100kms on the way up. Pretty good with a load on, 3" lift and running 35's. And there's plenty that can be done to improve performance if needed. Thing is the current motor is a proven reliable motor.

'apparently' the 4.5l Diesel will be the same motor as the 3 litre but with two more cylinders (spelling) added...not sure

the 4.5 diesel has been rumoured for 4 years. I personally wouldnt buy 1 if it is a 3.0 with 2 more cylinders as it will have all the electronics that go with it, thats the reason i got out of a 3.0 and into a 4.2....
seeing aust is one of the only markets thats gets the 4.2 nowadays i wouldn't see nissan/renault spending all that cash for 1 market.
i'd say we are stuck with the oldschool 4.2Tdi until nissan drop it and then we only have the 3.0 only.

yeh we will proberly be gettign a 4.2 agian..
in a few years nissan will proberly go IFS like toyota?

Problem is the old 4.2 meeting tougher exhaust restrictions. It only just scraped through last time with the intercooler and the gas re-circulating. It might be an old engine, but after a few k's on the clock goes quite good.

What do you think?? Look at what technology does for you?
Specially when you get stuck out in the bush, and you have no idea how to do anything with it, and neither does the bloke at the 100,000hectare property you broke down at..
YMMV

If it wan'ts more of the market share it will.
I've heard the 4.5L talk for about 2yrs when it surfaced of the yahoo patrol list but without any solid news, it's just that all talk.
In my opinion the TD42 as old as it is, by far and away is a better donk than the ZD30, which do you think will still be around in number in 10 years?

I think there will still be a large diesel engine for the aus market. There is bound to be an engine that fits the bill from the nissan truck range. Its that or they will sure the manufacturing costs

Yep good point the ugly bits are the front and rear bumper. If I ever had the cash to buy one, the Front and rear bumpers would last about a week before the replaced with proper steel stuff. So I dont really see the problem.

our plastic bumpers will alst about a day lol..so will the low rider suspension and all
yes the 05 models look fugly..if that model is the one coming out in september that will be Grimace..lol..hopefully theres a late 04 in september
the rear lights make it look like a pajero at the back..it looks square like a 60 series...the flares will also be a problem..becaus eit looks like there part of the panels..pain in the a$$ if u knock one..

Just on another note I seen a Black LHD car in Richmond (VIC) the other day. Looked sort of like that new Nissan Soft roader, was about the size of the territory. Went for a 2nd look but by the time I had gone around the block it was gone.

I am buying a GU coil cab soon and was reading some write ups from early last year, they were waiting for the 4.8 then so i think it has been on the cards for a while...

I heard that the 4.2 is to be phased out as it will b unable to meet the new emission control requirements. Although it is a bloody good donk it is a bit 'long in the tooth' and would be too costly to up grade. I've got a 3LTD but a mate has a 4.2L turbo, he's a bit worried that if the 4.2 is scrapped will parts still be available down the track?
