Well i'm sick of the cv'c cracking then destroying everything including diff tube, this happen a few months ago and again on the weekend, im going to save up for cromo cv's eventually, but it'll be a while. Does any one or has any one ringed a cv. From what i think you just weld a ring to the bell, to make it stronger and hopefully give it a better working life.

Surley some one has done this, thats why there is talk of it being done. So could some one post pics or even a link to this.

All help appreciated cheers

I have GQ Chromo axles and cv's and I wish I'd gone another way.

I'll pm you a number for a guy that makes them. I ran his on 37s and the latest 2years.

Yeah I had some ringed GQ CV's in my old Mav. The bloke at Edgeworth Driveshafts in Newy did em. I had em cryo'd after the ring was welded. They weld a ring to the open side of the bell. It helps with strength and stops the balls popping out. I didn't bust any more CV's on 35's after the work. The cryogenic helps too.

I know a guy who used to tig weld a ring around the bell, he was a brillient engineer, won tuff truck a few times, and built mad rock crawlers.
He said the ring doesn't strengthen the CV it just aneels the bell which makes them more resistant to shock loading. They are to hard from the factory which makes them brittle.

Anyone know how strong the Bolsys ones are compared to GU CV's? They seem like a good price

How does a ringed cv fit in the housing? Wouldn't it be like trying to fit a GU cv into a GQ?
The way I see it, wouldn't the ring be either thin and pointless, or too big to fit the housing.

I'm not 100% sure mate, i am not sure if the ring goes on the end of the bell and is the same dia, or if the inside dia of the ring is the same size of the bell and it gets welded on the outside.

it goes on the end of the bell same diameter. about 6mm think and 10mm in section. what im not sure about is how to heat treat them after welding. they are a bearing race witch is harden steel once welded it becomes soft?
