Time for a new donk
Firstly, might i refer you to this:
http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... hp?t=21650
Ok. the end result is a bent rod, after spending 5+ hours on staurday pulling my engine bay apart (and so far its cost $600+). These are my options:
1. dodgy fix, new rod with small cost, then sell car ASAP
2. Proper fix, full rebuild. average $
3. engine swap for commodore V6 (favoured option), big cost
4. engine swap for new 2.8Diesel
whats the opinions peoples, and anyone whos done a commodore v6 into a LN106R what was the cost, and benefits / negatives?
thanks 4x4'ers

i am currently putting a turbo supra 7mgte motor in my hilux, lookin like it will be around the $2-3000 mark complete, but be prepared to do alot of research and hunting for parts, the commo swap would be more straight forward i think.

dude it sounds alot cheaper to get a V6 commo and gearbox to match and adapt the transfer from the hilux if that is strong enough that is

I reckon go the Dellow kit and do it yourself. Anything else would cost heaps more. I can't see doing it yourself being very hard at all.
As for gearbox strength, I think hiluxes have the W series boxes in them don't they? I had a W57 in my XJ-S, so it was taking 300 horsepower and spinning tyres on a pretty heavy car, and it lasted through about four years of abuse before 2nd gear died.
That was a totally second hand box though. Dellow can also provide a reco'd W5x gearbox which would probably last longer; they arrive looking very tidy.
If you could get a better gearbox in there at the same time as the motor that would probably be smarter, but if you want to spread the cost over time then you could do the gearbox later (and probably end up paying a bit more than if you did it all at once). An R154 supra turbo box or similar can handle heaps more than a poxy commodore motor could ever put out
If you can't do it yourself, I am pretty sure Paultherocksta96's brother does a lot of buick 3.8 -> hilux conversions. His workshop is very nicely set up and he's in Nundah. Try PM'ing paultherocksta96 on this list or PM me and I'll try to find the phone number. I suspect you'd drive in and drive out for around $6-7k but I could be way off.

Hey De
Im in the middle of doing this at the moment. Im putting a rebuilt auto behind mine. One thing to remember with going the 5 speed route, when later on you decide to go a stronger box your up for the price of a new adapter (bout 1000) and box at the minimum.
Check my post in this thread bellow. I have listed out all the major costs I have incurred so far. Bear in mind I dont have much in the way of connections.

ok, i rang up redlands 4x4, he said $10K average. i rang up the bank, and they laughed when i asked for $8K...
i could probably do it myself with help from all my friends and connections, but i need my car back on the road ASAP as its my only car and daily driver. I'm kinda over the commodore V6 idea, as its gonna cost to much, and the bank won't give it to me. im thinking about doing a quick rebuild on my motor (3L), and just slapping a turbo on it at the first availiable time.
my poor heart was broken when the bank lady said probably not... ooh well, its probably for the best

Yeah probably for the best if you haven't got the cash... but I really would have thought you could fit the commodore v6 yourself for under three grand. They are a cheap motor and the conversion gear is readily available.
Go the cheapest cheapest option of replacing the rod and forget about it until (a) you've got the money for a better motor or (b) it breaks again.

yeah well i need my truck on road asap and i've only got MAX $1800 to do it with. so the old con rods come out this saturday, and are off to Brisbane Crankshaft Service to get resized and re bushed etc. etc. and i might slap a new timing belt in there while i got it all out. then the following week its all back together to get back on the road and slap 'her into low range then get back offroad!!
ooh, and whats a 1kzte?

1kzte = 3.0L turbo, overhead intercooled prado motor.
The motor is very good, and they really boogie.
