Hey guys.
My brother knows someone thats wrecking a 2wd Lux, its a 1990 model, with a 2.4petty motor, and auto, and its an extra cab.
My brother isnt sure about running gear, and Ive asked what ratio it has, both my brother and his mate with the Lux dont know what ratio is in it.
To save me driving over an hour to his place, then pulling the centre out and doing a tooth count, does anyone know what ratio would be in it??
From my reading on here, the Petty Luxes have the 4.8 centres, but Im not sure if this includes the 2wd models.
Again, its a 1990 Hilux extra-cab, 2.4 petrol engine, and auto.

Jack the ass end up mark the tyre and the ground and rotate it how many times does the tailshaft spin to the rotation of the tyre... its easy to work out... even your brother can do it...

I did think of that Matt, but youve never met my brother.
Ive asked him for the trans/axle code off the firewall, and Ill see what that can tell me.
Im assuming its got a 4.88 in it, because its a petrol engine, and with that in mind, Id just buy it, but the last thing I need here right now, is more Hilux bits I have no use for, or room for.
Mel is already on my case about having 2/3rds of the red cab on the front yard, and a chassis leaning against the fence, plus the yellow one still sitting across the driveway waiting to be finished.

Should have a G in the number which refers to 8" diff.
I think that's an auto no.

I also agree the code you have sounds like the auto code.
Same line on the ID plate will have Trans Axle CODE CODE need to make sure its the right code. I reckon 1990 should stil be G something. Probably finishing with 2 because I think pretty much all 2WD stuff is only 2 pinion open.

The old Luxy was fun, but with a young family comes great responsibility.
So I swapped it for a 60. Should be able to take the whole mob camping, plus I got an extra gear, 2 less cylinders and A/C.

I'm sure the ratio in the 2wd is more like 3.7 : 1 I did count one years ago and it was definently different.

Was just thinking, m old LN46 was originally 4.875 ratio, and as mentioned I think 2WD is higher ratio as the smaller wheels drop the ratio to approx. the same, and I think petrol is higher again than diesel.
When I told my wrecker friend I think I have had 4.11s fitted to my lux he comments that someone must have found some 2WD diffs.

I think that the diff in the 2wd is more than likely a 3.6, therefore no good to me.
