I am currently wanting to fit a set of reduction gears to my YN67 Hilux how ever i dont know if i have a gear driven or chain driven transfer case. My biggest problem is its a south african import and its a mix of different hilux pieces. Is there anyway to tell what transfer i have without having to pull it apart? I can post a pic of the transfer if needed.
Thanks Dave

Rearmost cover of the transfer (where the output flange bolts to) will be circle - shaped for chain drive and oval shaped for gear drive.
This will explain it

Although I'm pretty sure yours will be a gear drive which for the purpose of reduction gears is good.

The chain drive has a female coupler for an input and the gear drive has a male splined shaft.

Thanks for the answers. Is there anyway to tell if its a 21 or 23 spline short of pulling out the case?
