Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi guys i have a 99 3.0l diesel hilux and i am considering turboing it?
what is the best way to attack it?
can i just buy a kit off a factory 3.0l turbo diesel or will it not fit?
i am on a pretty tight budget so any help would be much appreciated?

thanks for your help mate. i am able to buy a ct20 turbo kit off a 2.8, is it just the manifold that is different or will i need to change the ECU and other parts?

If your Hilux has a 5L engine then the manifold will bolt straight on. I'm not sure about the ecu models but as I understand it that would only be an issue for you increasing the fuel delivery. My mechanical pump had a screw that increased the fuel not sure if the ecu models have such a screw or if the ecu controls that.

If it has an ecu, best bet would be to fit a DP chip as well so you can talk to the computer and boost the fuel as well. A DP chip by itself wont do much, but when combined with a turbo they make a nice difference.

if i was you i would not use that turbo... that turbo came off a 2.4ltr
their ok but not the best to use on a 2.8

your best of to use the turbo suited to the 3ltr motor...
i had a DTS turbo kit on mine it really woke the motor up!!!

if you have a 5LE then its is a EFI motor which you might have to get a chip to adjust the fuel

or

if you got the 5L motor then your laughing you can adjust the fuel manualy

i have a turbo kit here. the ct20 will still give you the extra power even though its for a 2.4. 500 if your interested. 0435936489 everything is included

Good move, I had a AXT turbo fitted, intercooler and mandrel 2.5" exhaust,,,to my 1998 5L, outstanding performance, about $2500 all up and worth every cent...
