Hello,

Just upgraded to 105 Landcruiser 1FZ-FE (From a suzuki).

Has anyone done an LPG conversion, and what systems did you run ie. injection type, tank location, recommended companies etc. Also any reliability issues? I have heard around the traps that the 1FZ-FE doesn't like gas, but are there newer liquid injection systems or anything out there?

I've had mine on gas for nearly 2 years. Standard system with all the better fittings (Brass not plastic). I run the 2 scuba tanks, one on each side under the front sills. 70L usable all up and that gets me 270km's. I went for this as the rear tyre carrier is another $1500.

My 80 with the 1fz-Fe (exact same engine) is running a 90lt tank with an ancient gas system (installed in 97 i think) getting 550km a tank and it runs great. Direct injection is great but if you want economy go for a system you can tune yourself. Never heard of a 1fz-Fe that hates gas. My step brothers 100 loves it, mine loves it too. As for tanks scuba tanks either under sills as mentioned or put a tank in the boot as under the car you loose too much space.

I have the two scuba tanks under the sills/side steps. Sounds like a similar set up to Willy Hilux, get about 270km per tank as well. Howsie, dont know if mine is just hungry or you have done something different but 550kms from a 90ltr tank is very impressive kms.

twin tanks are the go for 100's vapour injection is the best of any system as it wont backfire and you wont lose performance on petrol but on a 100 i dont think the extra cost is justified.you should get around 350-400 kays range on gas plus you keep your standard tanks.any system you get dont tune yourself leave it to the experts theres nothing worse than chasing problems someone has made by mucking around with there settings there very sensitive and most is set and forget.

550km's from 90L is shit hot. Alot different from my 270km's from 70L.

You're getting about 16.5L / 100km, that's way better than mine on petrol. I think ya speedo or sums are wrong or ya drive like an 80 year old.

Well at the moment its running rich so nowhere as good as it has been and its getting 480km per 90lt litres of gas on 35's with standard gearing speedo is 7% out so 480 x 1.07 = 513km mine only ever gives about 1/2 the gas it could.

My mates 80 series gets about 550km's from 90 litres while my 105 with vapour injection only gets about 260km's from the 70 litres. His goes a lot better than mine also, probably because the heads been shaved 3 times when it's came off to do the valves. 100 series were always heavier on fuel, extra weight and also they don't run an oxy sensor (no closed loop operation). I'm not sure why that would effect LPG consumption too much as they should be using a sniffer when they set up the gas anyway.

vapour injection uses more gas but it goes better because there is no restriction in the intake from having a mixer in the air path and the more accurate gas delivery

550km's compared to 260km's is a big difference for an extra 20 liters of gas. Can't be that much more weight in a 100 series. They run the same drive line and only have a slightly larger body.

260ks out of 90l is crap i get 450ks in my 3f engined 60 series i would be looking at your tune or driving style. thats almost 30 ltrs per hundred ks, it should be closer to 20.

I have sprint gas VPI on my 100 series. Its an 2000mdl GXL will all options (incl sunroof) so it would be pretty heavy.

285 cooper st's, 2 inch lift, dual batts,winch, free flow exaust etc and it will get about 400km to 85ltrs on the freeway and about 360km around town. Its an auto which hurts it.

I also had an 95mdl 80 series which I fitted the older carby style sprint gas too and it used to get about 450km on the freeway. It had 3 inch lift,dual batts, 285's or 315's didnt really phase it. BUT it was a manual and it had a lot less power than the 100 series despite weighing a few hundred Kilos less.

Another point is to consider when chosing tanks is what sort of off-roading you do. Have a look at how low the sub tanks sit. Unless your running a body lift, you will have the car sitting on them if you like your 4wding.

That's really good. Thats 18.8L per 100kms on gas. My 100 on petrol chews 22L per 100kms, on gas 26L per 100kms. Think I'm gunna have to go VPI.
