HIDs in small, cheap housings

I saw some really cheap and fairly small (probably ~3") spotlights, which have an H3 halogen lamp in them. Has anyone tried putting HID lamps into these? I am wondering if it's possible to get light output that's something similar to a much bigger, non-HID light, if you get my drift.

Such as this small H3 blue lensed light?

A pair of these (clear lense) with a 50 watt kit in them certainly put out enough light that they can be used as spot / driving lights.
Ie, You hit high beam, get used to the amount of light, and then turn these on and you can instantly see the difference.
Of course, it would also be way more light output with either a 70 or 100w in them.

Cool, thanks Bushy. I was hoping you'd answer.

I think I'll give it a go at some stage, I like the idea.
