OK, tax is back and need to upgrade the good ol CV's before up coming comps in about 6-7 weeks.
Will be running 37 comp spec treps after chrissy, but for now it's F+R locked weekend play truck running Simex ET2's with the occasional comps, prob 1 or 2 per year.
I know there's a bucket load of crap out there and alot will say stay away from Cal's... but in realistic terms, I've seen them perform in a club members comp truck running 42 Iroks for the past few years and been put under massive loads of torque and they're still going strong. No way in hell I could flog them as much as this guy does!! I'm not wanting to go GU diff any time in the near future, so think my choices are limited to either Cal's or heat treated CV's like the haultech ones etc. Or, what are the other options??

Haultechs. You can get them from bowlys (search 80sly gq)
I honestly think that Cals aren't worth the money. I also think there is some that are still going that should be dead and others that are dead and wonder why. I have Cals, I have also torn the stub axle off and split the bell in two. There's pics round here.

I have not tried Haultech's so i cant comment on those.
My opinion is if it is a choice between aftermarket or cal's i would choose cal's.
Cals are manufactured with a bit thicker bel and smaller balls than OEM so in theory if both NTN and Cals have perfect heat threating than the cals will be better.
Now there is nothing saying that cals are heat treated properly, nor any other brand that becomes mentioned.
I know we have all given Cal heaps of flack, i broke a fare few of them over the time i was competeing but i do now that NTN( standard heat treatment ) or other aftermarket do not hold up anywhere as long as cal's.
If i was not using the cal's back then there is no way i would the showroom full of trophies now.
Expensive but it comes down to what you want.
We in Australia must remember that the guys like cal are not producing the numbers like the USA so the purchase price is way higher than the likes of longfield can produce them for.
We do not like selling Cv's and we dont push that we sell them purely because most guys want a cv to be unbreakable and it is not going to happen, the stronger you think your driveline is the harder you push your truck, then we all winge that the cv broke and apparantly now its pissweak, then comes the warranty that some cv manufacturers avoid leaving the resellers looking like the bad ass
Any way if i still had a comp truck i would still choose Cal cv's and be carefull on undercut/square ledges and full / or near full lock.
The only way to get a real answer on whats better is the guys doing the cv's need to put the cv's up against each other on a test bench but i dont see that happening any time soon.

WOW... didn't really expect someone to give a very logical, non biased reponse like that.... Seriously mate, that has to be one of the most unopinionated replies I've seen on Outers!! especially coming from someone who's run and busted them on numerous occasions.Your experience and knowledge is much appreciated!!
I am also of the belief that everything will break sooner or later.... just a matter of how hard you push the limits really. Very valid point comparing longfields to cals re the warranty... Warranting items like this is only asking guys to push them to breaking point. I know everyone would love warranties on these, but can totally understand why they don't.

i have recently priced the 2 up and your nearly paying similar money for the heat ttreated items as your paying for cals
