ML Triton fuel sensor

Hello Outer Limits,
I have a 3.2 diesel everything was fine and the engine light came on. My mechanic says it was the fuel pressure sensor but, the part is not sold separately and I had to buy a common rial with one attached. This sounded crazy as it is bolt shaped and appears to screw in?
Can anybody confirm this or is aware of where to buy a replacement sensor?
