power steering fluid change

Checked my power steering fluid level the other day and its brown D:
Gotta change it, so
I have heard for some places and ppl that its a good idea to add a fuel filter to the power steering setup whenever you change anything to do with the system as the pump is very delicate.
Its a 60 series, If the fuel filter is a good idea, i would like to put it in theline between the bowl and the pump (low pressure?), is this the best spot? The hose here looks to be about 10mm ID so what fuel filters are this size, had a look at a few at supercheap and most seemed to have lines closer to 4-6mm ID.
Any advice or thaughts will be appreciated. Thanks.

"shodow" are you talking about a fuel filter from super cheap ??
a plastic see threw filter if so dont use it
id start with flushing ur system out
1 remove return line (low pressure)
2 block of drain from ps resivour. then run low pressure line into bucket/container use old heater hose to extend if needed
3 fill resivour up get a mate to start car n turn steering wheel from lock to lock as you keep filling to resivour up
this flushes all lines p/s box & pump all at ones
ull use around 3 to 4 litres flushing system clean
(depending on condition)
do not let system run dry (burn pump seal/blades)
4 then refit low pressure hose turn lock to lock with tyres lifterd of the ground (no load) to bleed all air bubbles from system
then lower car start engine slowly fill resivour to top leval
finished
then after all that get a good in line transmission-p/s oil filter from auto trans shop & fit to low pressure side
around 30 bucks.
there full of magnets to catch metal shaving (wear n tear) etc
there servicable & dont restrict flow (like papper filters do)
note all drive line fluids diffs/gearbox etc & p/s fluid
should be flushed every 40.000kms
every 20.000 in extream use
hope that helps

whats the likely damage from old fluid (brown D: )
damige from oil

thats the colour of burnt/overheaterd fluid
oil becomes contaminated with
alloy/metal shaving. rubber & teflon. etc
it becomes abrasive fluid (fluid sandpapper)
& chews out bores.piston.valving & seals etc
in the power steering pump & box or steering rack ifs 4x4
p/s fluid is a coolant for the steering internal parts & lube
to great a film between metal parts to stop contact & wear
so in short if not flushed/keeped clean it wears the p/s system
very commen in vr to vy commordores ull only get about 60.000kms from the p/s pump
leaks + noise in operation
id also recommend fitting a p/s oil cooler
say about 100mm x 200mm or bigger if you like
it will help your system out alot if using 35'' tyres or bigger
just grab a small auto transmission oil cooler
if low on cash grab one from wrecker $10.00 or $20.00 bucks
just blow out the old cooler with air compresser befor use
