have not done this myself but from what i understand, is that you need to use both the vit collapsible shaft and the sierra shaft( haha shaft). i think the vit shaft needs to be compressed a bit.

Timmy delt with this on his old SWB if you PM him he will reply or if you PM him on Auszookers he will reply quicker.

Or the Gman may pipe up on here.

From a very foggy memory I think the late 90s Toyota tarogo or cressida pit arm is a direct bolt on. It was something strange like that. Some people were using the Jimny boxes as well.

X2

are you talking about your using the vitara box with stock pit arm and the steering feels very loose? Or are you putting it one and cant get it to work? Or as 86slow just asked, the link from the steering wheel to the box is killing your life?

Thanks everyone for the reply's,Just got round to fitting Gti in car and started on a vitara power steering that my brother got me from a wreckers, he was told it was every thing you need to go into a sierra. I haven't taken out my box yet but noticed the shaft distance wasn't right, now after reading, if all is correct 1: yes vitara box will bolt on but angle of spline is out?
2: pitman arm, cant use sierra one and there's some issue with the vitara one????
3:I also thought about cutting spline of old box and adding extra knuckle.
4:also sounds like some rad mods too, which is ok cause I had to remove passenger mount to clear ps pump so far (also got A/c in there that's why the pump was in the way).
So basically any time saving by detailed info on the whole smow would be great .Will have a more detailed look into it today

Prettty sure the vit box bilts up to the Sierra steering shaft.

What you need is a collapsible stteering shaft. Unsure on which model Sierra has them though. Should be able to identify it by seeing little plastic rivets through the side of the shaft that stop it sliding.

Basically just drill out the plastic rivetts and adjust to desired lenght. Easy.

Ok vitara box doesn't bolt straight on the bolt patern is the opposite, ie the two bolt holes are on the opposite side

get a ben-t kit. it will make your life easyer.

My 94 and 96 sierras both have adjustable steering rods.

I thought vit box won't fit without a wedge that changes the angle and bolt pattern, that or mods to chassis/mounts. Wedges Can be found on lowrange, or best is BenT kit as it also includes spacer for radiator detailed instructions and all the stuff you'll need. What you'll need from the vit;

Box
Pump
Lines
Reservoir
Normally waterpump pully, but yours should be multirib as its gti engine.
collapsible shaft. 91ish sierra on-wards had collapsible shaft. drill plastic pins and tap it to length.

I did mine using BenT kit - was simple job.
