TD42 Fuel pump Modifications

Hey Guys,
Chasing down some more power from the oiler. Currently has a small turbo running a 16psi fart through a crossover pipe with a standard fuel pump (leaky) and still, pulls great. If I re-sealed the pump I'd expect good power. But I want more.
I've spoken to several fuel pump rooms across the great state of Queensland about what can be done to increase it's capability. The Standard reply is $2500 to modify/exchange your pump. Nobody goes in to great detail about what they do, I suppose for fear of giving away their secret recipe which I can fully understand (allthough for that $ I want to know what the hell is in my pump) And If I'm going to do it, I might as well go all out at once.
One modification I hear a lot of is using Landcruiser (unsure which engine) plungers in the TD pump body with other cruiser bits attached, although I'm not exactly 100% sure what components are used.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Although I would not be confident enough to undertake the mods myself I have access to a few very switched on diesel fitters who could watch over my shoulder.
Also, I would assume with more fuel I should change injector nozzles to get the most out of the pump? I will be swapping out the turbo for a GT2870 or GT2860 shortly after to get the full benefit of the fuel pump mods.

Oh, It will be intercooled of course. I've not yet decided on water to air or traditional top mount + thermofan, but as the bonnet already has a nice set up for a top mount I think I might try that first and moniter intake temps to see how it goes.

Couldn't find anything about this in the GQ bible. If it's been covered before, please link me and delete this mods.

So asuming your targeting about 170 RWHP max or so with that
turbocharger combination its quite achievable with a 11mm hyd head , as
for undertaking the work yourself good luck! , i have spent ( as well as alot
of other fuel tec's)countless hours trying diferent combinations etc on a fuel
test bench to get a desired result. Its just not what componetery you use its
how the fuel delivery is set up eg what fuel what boost and what rpm where
to set the pump up at . imo the 2871 is not a good turbo for the
application , the 2860rs is a good allrounder but are limited if you want to
push a bit of hp through it ,there are better options around .

Cheers, Shawn

Be realistic with what you want to achieve, ring swaffie regarding your pump and what combo you want to run as he is in the local area and will advise your accordingly.

He will also give you some other turbo options that will deliver a better result than the two options that you have suggested.

dont forget:
clutch
brakes - the brakes nissan put on cars with td42s are marginal at best, then people go and put 35s on. (Brake Fabricators WA do a 4 piston caliper kit with 330mm rotors)
air filter / snorkel and probably the inlet manifold too depending how far you want to go.

What motor you starting with? if its not factory turbo you really should upgrade the pistons.
