H engine advice

G'day,

I'm looking at a 40 with a 3.6L H engine in it. Just a few questions:
1) What are people's experiences with these engines?
2) Do they perform ok and do they take to boost? I can rebuild it and turbo it myself.
3) What sort of economy should I expect on a turbo'd H?

A V8 might be on the cards but I can rebuild and turbo it for less than 3 grand. Just wondering if it's worth it.

Cheers

No comparison get the v8 and turbo it for $3000 like you said

Sorry for the confusion but I meant rebuild and turbo the H not turbo a V8. That would be nice but there's no way I could turbo an 8 for less than 3 grand.

It'll be a daily so I was wondering if the H can make enough grunt to keep up with traffic while still being reasonably economical - 13L/100Km? Or am I dreaming?

Cheers

Hi There,

A love my 2H turbo but it still doesn't really keep up with traffic. After turbo was 100% improvement but still a painfully slow. I get 13/ 100 out of mine everywhere town / highway / offroad doesn't seem to change it.

Sorry just noticed it was H not 2H so no it won't keep up with traffic.

Have had 2 HJ 45 traybacks, slow and a PITA to attach power steering pumps etc. onto. I couldn't kill them no matter how hard I tried though. :D A 2H is a much better motor.

My son had a H in his 45. It was slow and vibrated heaps so we changed it to a 2H; -never happier. If you decide to keep the H in it, find a good dentist as it will eventually shake your teeth out.
