Just wondering if anyone can help me regarding spark plug gap and ignition timing. I have a 308 in my FJ40 and i'm running an electronic dizzy and MSD 'Blaster" coil. My question is, do I stay with the factory settings - as I've heard that because there's more spark you can open up the plug gap a little ???

Timing will depend on the fuel and engine setup, so im not much help with that.
As for plugs open them up to 1mm and see how you go. A good MSD setup should spark across that no probs.

Most electronic igntion systems you run around the 1.1mm plug gap. from memory 308s in the last of the car by models went up to 1.5mm. I would run around the 1.1mm gap.
Total timing should be between 30/34° depending on your motor.

Thanks Clanky & Turbo GU for the info. I'm running under 1mm gap & about 5deg before top dead centre at the moment so I'll open it up a bit and see what happens. My main problem has been at low revs in 4th when I get a slight miss. At higher revs I don't notice a problem.

I would be running around 10/12degrees advance. make sure u check it with the vac advance disconnected 5degrees is quite low advance.
