well guys i dunno whats going on with my zook its a 1985 high top.
the other week it ran out of petrol while idling at my house lol but then got petrol
filled her up then went for a drive and lost all acceleration then it cuts back in then cuts out
and it stalled then today i got some carby cleaner and went for a drive and it drove fine
but then i hit a bump and it did it again lost all acceleration then stalled.
got home and my dad and i looked under the bonnet and noticed it looks like
the bonnet has been hitting the battery so we glued a bit of rubber over that so it cant hit
the battery anymore havent driven it since but what do you guys reckon?

Sounds like youv'e sucked up some crap. change your fuel filter, and blow out your fuel lines with compressed air.

oh. and your battery size sounds wack yo. there is no reason for you to have such gigantic sized bat.

Sounds like some garbage has been sucked up into the carby as the above post said. When you clean it out fit a secondary filter in the fuel supply line after the fuel pump. A cheap generic fuel filter from Repco or simillar will do. This will help avoid the situation happening again. If you can get a clear plastic one so you can physically monitor the state of the filter and the fuel.

Had a battery issue like that once, welded the Posivive terminal to the underside of the bonnet in the paddock one night. Fried the earth wire-Gone. Engine and lights died, glowing red spot on the bonnet was all we could see. Had to fab an earth wire out of a fence.

Have to agree about the speck of shit in the carby. Sometimes a little shit in the corner can land you in trouble.

And I didn't realise sierras had acceleration to begin with.

Before you pull the top off the carby if it has the bolts that go through, pull two diagonally, replace them with 8x1.25 threaded rod with a nut on above the base to hold the carby base onto the manifold, saves ruining gaskets and trying to pull the carby apart while it flops about.

That makes sense to me, hopefully to you.

If the problem still continues with loss of power/acceleration it could be the fuel pump under the bonnet. Happened to me a year ago, had NRMA check their battery & was good. Shonky auto-electrician replaced my alternator & still had the same problem. Fuel filter was replaced prior to my problems happening during a full service by an over-charging mechanic I thought I could trust, but never again.

i just had this problem a couple weeks back, turned out i had water in my fuel and my primary jet was blocked. i removed both jets and cleaned them with carby cleaner, poured half a bottle of metho in the tank and replaced the fuel filter. no more problem
easiest way to check the fuel pump is to take the hose of the inlet to the carby and put the hose into an old water bottle, disconnect the coil lead so the car doesn't start, turn the key. if it spits out fuel, your pump is good. if not, your fuel pump is shot and needs to be replaced.

Mate try changing your oil. I no my toyota kept stalling from low oil pressure. Just a sugestion
