Morning chaps and chapettes,
I am about to do the unthinkable and give my my ole cruiser up for a new navara, just wondering if there is anyone who can give me a good pros and cons, I have been reading some reviews and the st-r is getting a bashing from people who own em. Just want to get some advice from people who know.
Cheers

i assume you mean D22 navara.
you have to remember its lighter built than a cruiser.
they are an old work horse. chassis hasn't really changed in 20 odd years. common problems is weak rear springs, like you need an excuse to lift it, 2011 dual cabs do not have lockable front hubs, has 6" wide rims and skinny tires compared to the older models that have 7" wide rims. engine is a detuned yd25, bit gutless down low but blocking egr off helps a lot with that. front diff is a weak point especially if you fit big tires.
fortunately it still has 2nd stick for 4x4 unlike most other new 4x4's which are all electronic 4x4 selection.
hope that helps.

Thanks for that. We plan on really only using it to tow a camp trailer and odd jobs around the acreage, not carrying too much heavy stuff or the rough stuff anymore, plus the 80km round trip highway commute to work.
Cheers

never let windging consumers help you make a purchase
2011 navara st-r 4x4 - best all round 4wd nissan have made
they where good years ago, but the zd30 let them down when nissan got the yd25 they brought them back out.

i wouldn't say best. the ZD30 is far better motor to drive and the old 2.7/3.2's had a stronger driveline.
biggest downside to the later ones is they are no longer made in japan :( the thai and spain built ones just don't have the same quality.

D22 production is meant to be going back to japan soon. I'd wait till then if you're buying a brand new one.

My 3 month old D22 STR Dual Cab certainly has lockable free wheeling front hubs.

Mine has the exact same rims that my old ZD30 powered D22 STR had.
The differences between a new D22 and the older one are very few. Obviously the motor is different, and new one has a bonnet scoop for the intercooler. The rear tub is longer on the newer ones. The interior is identical and exact same trim except for a double din Head Unit.
I'd have to say it's probably one of the best value 4x4 dual cabs on the market. The only stupid part is they have central locking, but keyless entry isn't a standard feature.

Really? Where did you hear that and any idea why?
I preferred the ZD powered D22s to the YD powered ones. D22s are cheap, but their construction is pretty light in my opinion and I don't believe they are designed to handle a lot of abuse.

i wonder if the shift in production is related to them going to have some models made in mitsi factorys.
yes the D22 light built but then so are all of the 4x4's of that size. none of them will hack much abuse. if you want tough get a patrol.

I agree 200%, but a lot of uneducated people think all these dual cab utes are bulletproof when they are far from it.

I was told by the Nissan Technical trainer that the D22, J32 Maxima, and a few others will have their production moved back to japan in order to increase production of other models in Thailand. (Thai D40, etc)
