Hi,
I have a 4 Speed manual Gearbox from my 91 Hilux Grinner YN85R with Model number L40, of which I no longer want.
I am looking to change this to a 5 Speed.
I have a 89 RN85R Hilux 5 Speed Gearbox with Model number G52, Ive seen already that it would simply be too hard to use the G52 gearbox on my 91 Hilux.
Does anyone know a most suitbale gearbox that i can replace with for a 5 Speed manual?
As im willing to sell the G52 on ebay, etc, and buy the more suitable gearbox.
Thanks a lot
Brandon

What country are you from Brandon? In Australia in 1991 all manual hiluxes came with the G52 5 speed gearbox.

Have a look on your firewall for the identification plate and tell us what is stamped next to "transaxle code" also what engine is in it?

No worries mate I don't know much on the 2wd configurations of the luxes sorry but have heard of 4 speeds used much later than when the 4wds gave them up so it's probable you still have one of these dinosaurs. In that case get a g52 bellhousing that was bolted to a 3y/4y out of a hilux/hiace then bolt it to the g52 2wd gearbox. Also look at the w56 as they came in 2wd as well I believe. Either way you will need to modify you gearbox crossmember to suit the longer box and shorten your tail shaft.

Hmm cheers for this info mate.
So the regular Hiluxes from this era were generally using G52 5 speed manuals as it was?
If so, then I can't see too many other problems other then crossmember and tailshaft to switch to 5 speed G52 from 4 speed L40.
Cheers once again
