Ive done a search already and found ALOT of different (conflicting) info on here regarding the comparo,

Was just wondering what an average cost for the two are? and also advantages of both? i.e strength, options, driveability?

Ive got a 308, T700, hilux case (standard) planning on 37+ tires

Thanks in advance guys!

Go Marlin Crawler compition Cromo gear set with 23 (total) spline input (if ya can get the auto adaptor with 23 spline output) and a Longfield cromo output and your set.

This will be your strongest and cheapest option for what you want.

With duals you will snap the input into the second case.

or

WOuld it start getting too expensive to go chromo shafts between the cases?

I would love the option of highhigh/highlow/lowlow though.

You could go duals with a 23 spline input into the second case to make it stronger. So when you order the dual adaptor, ask for one with the 23 spline output. Buy a 23 total spline from Marlin Crawler and a cromo output from Lonfields.

Prices from Loctup 4x4 to give you an idea of what you'd be paying......

Dual adaptor 23 spline output - $499
23 total spline input - $269
Cromo output - $349

Total - $1117

Then add between $50 and $250 roughly for a 4 speed transfer case.
Then if ya stripping your second transfer down to fit upgrade parts, your best off putting twin sticks on. extra - $299

So you'd be looking at anywhere from $1170 to $1700 to make it strong enough for a V8.

Thats a real eye opener! I knew all the bits would add up but DAYAM! Thanks for the research mate  to you, I had a poke around at prices but wasnt sure of what parts i needed.

I might look into gears now! haha. Whats the final drive ratio difference between single case with 4.7 gears and standard twins? we want low low low

Also look at http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; provided you are happy to import from the states you will save a few hundred off the prices there.

As for the gearing difference you have 4.7:1 in the single case with low range gear set or with the duals you have 2.28x2.28 which gives you a maximum ~5.2:1 plus the ability to run just a 2.28:1 (standard low range) which I couldn't do without. You can also run duals with a 2.28 in the reduction and 4.7 low range set in the rear case offering a potential ~10.7:1 reduction which would see old people with walking frames overtaking you on the trails.

The only problem with duals (by the way I'm running them) is you are putting twice the load on the second transfer that it was designed for. Then you are putting a V8 in front of it when it was for a 3 litre desiel or 2 litre petrol.

Don't expect it to last forever. It's good to ugrade parts, but when you put a 23 spline adaptor in you can't just have a spare tranny to throw in when the one in the truck goes BANG!. You'll have to have a 23 spline in that one ready to go. This is why I never went down the path of a 23 spline setup.

I only just blew my transfer up the other month in a comp. Did a low range gear set in the second transfer on Saturday then snapped the input shaft into the second transfer on the sunday. But this is after a few years of abuse.

Is this going to be a trailer queen or will it see the beach etc now and then. If it's going to be a comp truck setup, I'd go just good quality gears. If it's a daily driver and you are going to use it for the beach etc, then bit the bullet and go duals.

I remember you launching up the waterfall with only one case in! haha highlight of the trip

Its a sponsored comp truck, which will be driven on road but not often, Its going to compete in modified class next year then maybe go up to challenge half way through 2012 or start of 2013 season. I just want to build it right the first time instead of full overhauls between seasons

Then gears it is. Then V8 should turn the 37"'s easy in high range between tracks and campsite. My poor 2.7L takes a bit to turn in high range.

What diffs ya putting under it??

Yer thats a bonus too (reduced high range)

I put a thread up about diffs a while ago now and decided on lux diffs and longs. Maybe full 80series transplant later down the line.
