After discussion in this thread:
http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/viewtopic ... 8&t=220294" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And a few months later, I decided to go with all 80 series gear under my fj40. This is mainly to hopefully get a better ride on the road, better flex and to gain disc breaks. I won't be doing any work until christmas but I want to get as much info as I can before I start.
I would appreciate any links to build ups or discussions on this topic.
Please post any info/opinions on:
Mounting the links on the chassis
Steering set up (want power steering)
Should I leave out the x link and sway bar
Springs and shocks to use

I have a complete 80 series that has been in a low speed roll over with all the running gear in a good condition.
Also I will be putting a ls1 in the 40 and a gq gearbox and transfer.

Thanks in advance for all information!

EDIT: I would like it to be able to be engineered.

Why not just swap the fj40 body to the 80 series chassis

Forgot to mention that its a shorty 40. Surely the 80 series wheelbase would be too long.

A mate of mine is doung the same thing but putting it on a 80 chassis and yea wheel base is way out he has to extend the body and also cut the chassis down hard part bout the chassis is it angles inand wont line up if u take to much out

If the wheelbase was close, I would think about doing it, but im really not keen on cutting a chassis. Thanks anyway for the ideas :D

start with a engineer tell him your plans and find out his requirements

with fitting a 40 cab to the 80 chassi, the cab has to comply to the adr of the chassi year model

for your engine conversion, i suggest a marks adaptor

power steer, use the 80 series ps box n make new hoses and plumb it to the ls1

sway bars , nahh  a built my truck about 5 year ago, ive got a set n just have not fit em they would come in handy espeacially when the truck is loaded with gear tho

suspension, i used standard coils and long travel shocks
i wanted low wide n flexible and got it with that combo
i used rs5000 they flex well but not much chop for onroad bugger all absorbion next set will be the 9000 or maybe tough dogs

x link ,OH F#*@K YEAH when i first built it the ride was good but it did not flex in the front end and it was the standard coil long shock set up but as soon as i fitted it the front flexed instantly

chassi mounts , use front shock towers and front and rear coil mounts
(rear top coil mount just fab a cross member into the chassi to give it a home )
use the rear diffs top link crossmember and fab it into the chassi too
use the front n rear panhard brackets
and fab your own f n r lower control mounts its is easyier then trying to fab the original ones on plus they sit low on the chassi n create a catch up point when your off road

hopefully that gives you somethings to think about and some help
