how much funds would you allow to build a 80 series into a winch truck
and wot would your mods be
lets keep this down to a low budget single cab ute
best bang for buck truck and no nissan crap all yota
just intrested in feed back as i have some 80s

Hahah. To make your front axle any good, it will need a Nissan centre in it.

At a guess...

Lockers front and rear with new gears $5000
Highmount with mods $3500
Cage and other bar work $3000
37 Stickies and beadlocked rims $3000
Window nets, fire extinguishers, electrical cut off $1000
Triple Batteries and high output alternator $650
Suspension $3000

Factor is some reduction gears, Engine performance upgrades, some longfields and other stuff as well.

That would be for average build paying someone for the work.

Keeping it full bodied would allow you to run in production class which would cost less to be competitive.

yes, because winch trucks are so much harder on their front diff than the rock crawling guys... who get away with 80 front diffs

My choice would be supercharged or turbo'd 1fz-fe (they love boost, you'll love boost, it's win win.)

Auto. most manual winch trucks i know of suffer clutch drama's due to the need to slip them occasionally.

keep it as low as possibly with factory suspension geometry. no spring lift. maybe heavier coils or sway bars to stop as much body roll (winch trucks = no travel, lockers and momentum is enough). squeeze in whatever the tallest allowable tire is with body mod's. body lift as a last resort (low, stable at speed).

winch is a given. trick highmount. no escaping that.

rear locker, cromo rear axles, upgraded axle studs/extra dowels.

front ARB. upgraded carrier studs, cryo treated ring gear and pinion, longfields, longfield drive flanges, lots of diff bracing.

driven well should show the door to anything with a nissan badge.

turbo diesel i am assuming.

if so, then probably not, but i'm no turbo guru. i just have experienced a few boosted 1fz-fe's

Can always grapht a 75 series centre into the 80 housing, then you can run longfields and e all Toyota! That's what we run in the 37inch trep wearing comp 80 we race in! And we haven't had an issue with that set up!

Also if you are handy on tools you could build a competitive mod class race rig for pretty bloody cheap! Just depends what class you want to race in I guess.

That would be the absolute minimum, it was built for modified class, but is currently being converted to open class with a new motor
