I have read that some people have trimmed down the top bumper stop (front) to acieve more movement. Any advice on pros and cons ?
thanks.

Yep you can cut them down to about 8-9mm and use low profile Allen key bolts instead of the factory ones. Remember to Loctite them in though.
Here's a pic of mine.

thanks heaps. Does the extra angle on the CVs have any adverse affect. Will I need to look at bigger CV "boots" ?

I did split a few CV boots after the lift (2.5") but since fitting Aisin manual hubs (from a Triton) I haven't had any trouble. Haven't blown a CV either and thats with a front Detroit locker.
I have found that the factory CV boots are the best (compared to the $20 Autobahn ones) but they are bloody expensive = $140 Ea
If your running tyres up to 33" the front suspension will cope fine but over 33" problems like bent idler arms / drag links and broken tie rods are regular events.

thanks again. On the subject of tyres: what can I get away with on the GLX. I currently run 30x9.5. you've suggested that I can get away with 33's. will this be limited by the lack of "flares" on the GLX.

I run 235/85R16 (with adjusted speedo driven gear) on my NJ 2.8TDI and find them to be fantastic (when compared to the 30/9.5R15 on my previous NB petrol, not quite apples with apples). Hate to contemplate having smaller tyres. The only negative aspect is only just being in the "powerband " at 100km/h and hence having to use a bit of "welly" to maintain speeds over hills (100km/h at about 2500rpm). A small trade of for the increased clearance and tyre contact area.

After cutting the bump stops do you get aloud knock clunk or bang sound when top control arm is at max movement ? Can't find anything else in the front end worn to explain noise

I know that you definitely do if you pull them out all together

I had the same problem with noise after I modified my rubbers. Couldn't see any real problems so I kept an ear and eye out but the noise disappeared after a while. Still not sure if that's a good thing or not.
