Power steering?

Hi guys... owner of an '85 Rocky here looking for advice.

Love my Daihatsu go-anywhere tank, but I'm getting too fragile to be able to handle the lack of power steering

Anyone know whether its possible to add power steering to a petrol Rocky?

Engine's getting a bit tired too I suppose, so doing a motor swap could be an option if that'd get me power.

Ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance :D

Hey Zed,
I am trying to do the same thing to my 84 Diesel Rocky.
The story so far:

Found a wrecker who has 'ALL' parts needed for the conversion out of a wrecked Rocky.
Parted with the money.
Taken to mechanic, who says that the parts are for the Petrol model and don't fit!
Went back to wreckers and said you sold me wrong parts. They assure me it just needs a bracket and are searching for this bracket.
Still havn't got the bracket.

So while the topic has been bought up, does anyone know if the petrol and diesel Rockys use different parts or will the bracket fix the problem for me?

Thanks guys,

Interesting... so how much have you paid for the parts so far?

Did you get an indication from anyone of how much it would cost to fit?

If the 2nd hand kit isn't going to suit your diesel, then maybe I could take it all off your hands and hope for better luck with mine!

I paid $500 for the parts. (Was the cheapest I found, most wanted $600).
I will chase them up again today for the bracket, but am having troubles as I got the parts through my brothers mate whos parents owns the wreckers, so cant go straight to the wreckers
If I find that the diesel and petrol models are definetly not compatible, then you are welcome to them, but want to have a look for myself before giving the parts up.
Have recently moved to Sydney and am now in a unit, so time is scarse to have a good look at it myself.

I have a good mechanic who I saw before buying the parts. He said he had done this before on a pajero and shouldn't be a problem. I expect to pay about $100 mark for him to put it in.
Only problem is that he is very busy now, and this job I don't think has a high priority.

Guys try tracking down Rick (member on this forum) as he's got the full Rocky manual online that you can download. That should show you any differences between the models.

Do it,

I fitted powewr steering to my 91 Roza ( $650 ) and it was a different vehicle all together. Couldn't drive the Surf without it.

Cheers Leon.

Oh no, definitely not. If you look closer, I think you'll find that my luscious blue and white pin stripes are a far better example of mid-80s poor taste :D

I rekon that will be the go, just gotta get time to do it now and having no back yard or garage to pull it apart in really sucks!
