Electronic Ignitions

I am considering a CD electronic ignition system, to upgrade from points, are the CD type that much better for street, general offroad & occasional competition. I have been recommended a Crane Fireball XD3000 & PS20 coil, but suspect I should get a high energy coil.
Anyone had any experience with what works and doesn't, particularly when water.mud on the plugs & leads occurs, the Ignition & coil will be tucked away in a tupperware container
