HID Lights

My friend has recently bought a new(secondhand) Toyota 100 series Sahara. It is very nice to drive. It has HID lights which are very good. When I switched to High Beam, the Low Beam HID's appeared to stay on as well. I am concerned that having 2 beams operating within the one light may cause overheating etc. Is is normal to keep the low beams on when using High beam? I am aware that the globes are probably only about 35 watts, but if they are not meant to operate alongside the high beams, something is going to get hot and possibly fail. Any comments please

In all cars I have.ever.owned the lowbeam stays on when highbeams is selected. I don't imagine hids are any different.
