KOH2012

So is anyone headed over to KOH2012?

I hear there are 2 Australian Teams this year?

Just thought I would start a thread where info and important facts could be shared for the 2012 KingoftheHammers Event!

I'll start with a vid!

Not sure if I have? And if I did there was obviously no one cooler then me to start a thread on said event!
In this case Napsta is the Aussie King of Ultra 4 so that = cooler then two kids who give away stickers every once and a while :finger:

In other news: with the inclusion of new classes next year it will put a cool spin on the survival side of things with Less modified rigs having to drive with their head and try and block out the cheering crowds to try and survive

I want a thread started by Shannon Campbell ---- but that didn't happen either.... Laaaaaa

So for now you'll just have to read this enjoyable thread about any info that may be on hand about KOH2012...

Does anyone have any quality information about what is the best accomodation source on the lake bed?
A certain company that rents motorhomes, particularly suited for this event?
What about transport once on the lakebed - is there enough action within walking distance that a 4x4 is not req? or would it be a huge advantage to rent a jeep to get further out on the track for better action?

I know there is quite a few guys that have done this before and I'd love to hear any opinions on this adventure...

(I know much of this info has been covered in previous event threads - but I know quite a few from here went in 2011 so there maybe better/more accurate info available? Cheers)

Dan jump on pirate and have a read of the 2012 KOH course info thread and the other threads in the competition section, best source of info as Dave Cole is posting updates.

Your best bet for accommodation is renting an RV through a company that delivers to the lake bed so your all set up when you get there, however this late in the piece i think you'd be lucky to organise a delivered RV. Fly into LA or Vegas hire a 4x4 and drive out to the lake bed, that way you save on fuel not driving an RV to the hammers and you have some transport when you get there. Pre purchased entry fees and dumping of your RV is available on the Ultra4 official website to save a few hassles.

There will be 4 major spectator points on course for the 2012 race all easily accessible in a 4x4 plus HammerKing has organised a jumbo tron in camp which will bring live footage from remote cameras straight to you including footage from the 2 helos, Camo from pirate tv and Tech Tim will be hosting a panel near the jumbo for commentary. The jumbo tron is an awesome addition with everything that goes on in camp you wouldn't have to leave if you didnt have your own transport and couldn't score a ride to one of the spectator sections. The guys seem to really be going all out for next years race to keep the event growing and with heaps of super competitive teams building new cars it would be awesome to be there.

I was really wanting to head over for 2 weeks and volunteer for the 2012 race but decided to give it a miss and wait until 2013. Chris, his wife and Alli and myself are heading over in 2013 to get amongst the action. I will be looking to organise an RV as soon as the dates are released for the 2013 race, Ive got a feeling your not the only one from CQ who wants to make the trip, Giggles?

This may be a serious option for 2013 james. Ima try restrict myself to just tuff truck next year. So i may be able to start saving now. Whats a rough cost wise?

How about I just try and put some helpful info into this thread.

I strongly suggest you work out some kind of wheels to get around. It will allow you to explore more and see Johnson Valley. A rhino/utv is fine or others have rented stock jeeps.

Nick and Mal's car is under construction at Jimmy's4x4 in Colorado. It sounds like it will be a great car with all the good stuff.

I'm currently working to prep my car. I've got a heap to do and currently almost have a bare frame sitting in the shop. Engine and trans are getting rebuilt and a whole heap of work will be needed to get ready to try and win this thing.

It's not too late to book a ticket. I'll see some of you on the lakebed. Maybe we should have an Aussie party one night.

Im not entering my car in Tuff Truck this yr because im going to KOH.. but still competing as a navi.. so i get the best of both worlds...hahahah :finger:
My KOH trip is costing me 5k for 2 weeks, a week in a motor home sharing with a bunch of mates at the KOH and then a week in vegas on the way home just for the hell of it... Booze, women, gambleing, women, more Booze then maybe more women...    you know what they say... what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas..lol

If you can team up with people the overall cost is alot cheaper.. 3 of us are only paying $300 each to hire the motorhome... our 4 seat buggy is costing us $400 each.. lol but will be worth it.

Mal Van here...
Yes, Nick and I have entered for 2012. As Ben said we are currently having a car built by Jimmys 4x4 in Colorado. Nick is over there now trying to get organised and will probably head to Colorado to speed up the process. Will be an awesome experience as long as I can read the Gps and we dont get lost...
Corona Motorhomes seem to be the best to deal with and can deliver the motorhomes to and from the event. I must say a big thanks to Ben Napier as im sure he is sick of talking to Nick trying to pull this off.
So we will be there, where i dont know but stop in and say hi, and pray that we finish!!!
Thanks.

When I spoke to corona motorhomes the other day regarding the rtv they had no motorhomes left to higher... There are plenty of others out there but and cause its winter in the states they seem to be abit cheaper than normal..

So what's the news Dan are you guys heading over to see the action?

I wouldnt even think twice selling a kidney to get over there and see this years race. The qualifying is going to be amazing to watch especially with the 3 past kings lining up after each other, 2 bomber fab buggies going head to head and the two desert racers TJ Flores and Robby Gordan lining up.

I am the crew chief for Cagliero Racing, Car 27 so I will be camping with the team at 137 Rugged Road.
Im going to bring my rig and get some wheeling in if I get any time.

Cheers)

Last years link for info on 2011 trip/planning

I wouldn't suggest hiring a motorhome at all but it's a personal decision.

It doesn't work out to be cost effective or very comfortable for that matter, depends how many you're going with I suppose and how much personal space you are willing to sacrifice.

You will definately need a vehicle with clearance to get from track to track.

If you are considering sharing a room and driving to the event take a look at this one, this is where we stayed and it was very comfortable: http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern ... Code=05680" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
