How do front lockrites go on the beach?

Just fitted my new lockrite in the front of my Gq, essentially this weekend at red head beach will be it's first real test asside from a lap around the gravel put outside work. Anyone had any dramas with them on sand? Anything I should be warey of? Red head beach is quite soft and the entrance to it usually takes a bit of right boot to tackle. How do these lockers perform at above crawl speed? Any info before Saturday would be great. Cheers folks

Used to have one in my first 4runner. From memory it drove pretty normal, but did pull a little to the left and right when you have a bit of boot in it, nothing bad but.

I had one on my shorty and the one and only time I took it on the beach it seamed to bog down a lot more than it should have and it didn't turn very well.

I have one in a SWB and its drives normal , I have hardly noticed it offroad as it works as smooth and quiet as an LSD.

Redhead only needs right boot at the entrance because half the clowns there use too high a tyre pressure and chew it to shit.
I run 5psi in my zook and can 2wd it without wheelspin.
Mates in cruisers/patrols run 6-8 and can do the same.
You don't " need" a locker on the beach, but on dune climbs it helps greatly with momentum.
It helps stop you digging in if you're a bit heavy on the loud pedal also.

Only time I've had any issues with the front lokka is on mud, where the car will occasionally tend to not want to turn.
On sand, I've never had his problem.

I liked my lockrite better on sand than open diffs as it sort of helped keep the car running straight through heavy rutted beaches like stocko, where open you would pitch side to side. Great for climbing dunes, but when you get stuck, you really get stuck. Go for it, best few $$$ you will ever spend

I live at Jewells so I've spent many years on that beach and never had any dramas. I can get on and off that beach easily in 2wd and the only time I use my lockers over there is to give them a bit of a run. I run 8 psi in my 35s but I wouldn't be scared to go lower as I've done it a couple of times when I've had to pull other 4wds off the beach.

x3 - Grew up in the area and up till 2 years ago lived right on the beach. Drove my dual locked zook on swampers on the beach all the time all over the place with no problem.

You need to get about the web a little more. Honestly, if you've read as much as I have, you'd know that mud tyres are crap on sand. Absolutely horrid, simply don't work. They do nothing but dig holes.
So obviously, you really didn't know what you were doing, because, if you did know, your swampers would've dug half way to China before you could blink, and the incoming tide would've buried your zook like a surf in the sand.
No problems on sand with swampers?

simex,swampers,boggers work excellent on the beach when you have the power, they work like paddles,and yes lockers definatly on the beach 4 wheels driving better than 2,you go a lot more places ,daz

Daz4b doen't need get about the web more! His experiences are base or REAL LIFE 4x4ing and not on surfing the net!
Daz4b is right I have also run numerous mud tyres and maxxis creepy crawlers in very soft sand with zero issues!

Seriously? Get outside and do something? Hell no! It's dangerous out there.
It's so much safer (and easier) to become an expert on anything by surfing the web from the comfort of a good armchair.
If you don't have a good, comfortable armchair, may I suggest ebay? You shop from the safety of your own home, and have the armchair delivered to your loungeroom - not just to your door!

Agree 100% Scott. My bighorns are crap in the sand. Drop em to 10 pound and dig trenches all day. I'm told snow chains make them slightly better though.

Yes, well, you would have no other choice than snow chains, because you have mud tyres.
For sand, you would, of course, want sand chains, but they don't make sand chains to suit mud tyres, because everybody knows that experienced 4wders don't use mud tyres on sand.
Sand chains are designed to suit H/Ts, because H/Ts are simply awesome on sand!

Wow, didnt this get off topic??
I took the Pajero onto Blacksmiths Beach, with the 31inch ATs on, dropped down to 15psi, went awesome, no dramas at all.
I took the Lux on there, with the 33inch Swampers on, at 15psi, I wasnt too happy with them, they wanted to dig most of the time, didnt get stuck though, but the sand on Blacksmiths is pretty soft.
Im not running beadlocks, so Im not keen to drop them down too much.
I run them at 12-14 out on the tracks, and they are great.
Next time I take the Lux on the beach, Ill either run my 35s at 14psi, or drop the Swampers down to 11-12psi and see how that goes.
The sidewalls are so thick on the TSLs that they dont bag out like a road tyre.

I'll weigh in here. I can't tell who is being sarcastic and who isn't...
BUT, my 1HZ powered 80 series went ok with 31"x10.5" HT tyres on Rainbow Beach, but when I upped them to 315/75R16 (35x12.5 in the old money I think) it now floats over the sand effortlessly. I have noticed the engine labours less and the diff spends less time plowing through the sand in the middle of the tyre tracks.
EDIT - in both the above scenarios, I drop the tyre pressure until the sidewalls slightly bag out (usually around 12 to 20 PSI)

Agree with u totally mate I have only ever had mud tyres though so can't comment on any others.

Im taking the family onthe beach today, we have extra kids today so we will be using both cars(Pajero and Hilux), the Paj is good on 31in ATs, dropped to around 15psi.
The Swampers on the Lux dont bag out due to the thick sidewall, and I dont have beadlocks, so Im not too keen to go below 11psi. So Im going to go back to the 35s, dropped to around the 13-15psi area.

Scott I too have STT's and can vouch they are terrible on a heavy 4by is sand, but how did we get onto what tires go better back to OP how did your lockright go?

Well seeing as this is my thread I'll comment.lol. I've done two outings to the beach since fitting the lokka, and two bush runs and all I can say is win win win win. I'm only sorry that I didn't get one earlier rather then wasting my life trying to save for an AIR LEAKER ! I can't speak for lighter rigs but as far as the troll goes it works really well.

While I'm on the subject of tyres, I notice that you have Goodyear Wrangler 35s.

MT/R?
Or TG?
But, if we're talking diff locks, I quite like my front air leaker. It enabled me to crawl Big Red after a V8 Cruiser and a Hilux failed to climb it. I think front diff locks are great, so good that I still have my LSD in the rear, and no desire to change it.
Oh, and stilivn:
The GQ in the background was the heaviest vehicle, and easily the most capable - on Kumho mud terrains at 12psi. What pressure were you running?

12-15 from memory, STT's are hard to bag out the walls and wasnt keen on going too low as have already rooted 1 tire on the sand. I found if you try to take off too quick it would just dig in. Didnt have that problem on AT at 18psi.
