My understanding is you can only tow what the car itself is rated to or the strength of towing system whichever is LOWER. What you cam actually tow I believe is determined by weight of vehicle, braking system on vehicle ie abs. I may be.wrong on.the last point though.

It Is possible to get your car reclassified for a higher tow rating but would need to upgrade brakes at minimized expect and for a 300 kg gain its not really worth it.

was talking to transport today and it is possible to upgrade the cars towing capacity, larger brakes etc,so i wonder how hard/expensive it would be to fit a pair of gu diffs with brakes etc,and would this meen i could tow the same as a gu which i think is about 3200kg?

certain GQs could tow 2800. check your book in your glovebox it might tell you.
I remember reading about it, I know two of the criteria were a manual gearbox and disk brake rear.

You need to think about GCM as well. they are heavy cars to begin with.

Brakes have nothing to do with it.

A 4.2l GU Patrol can legaly tow 1000kg more than a 3.0l auto GU.
The only difference being the engine and gearbox.
