Warn 6hp motor to what models?

G'day fellas, I've had a bit of a look around and can't find a definitive answer. What I want to do is try and get a second hand warn winch, I'm thinking a M8000 or similar and then fit a 6hp motor to it. Has this been done or is it doable? I know I can get an xp9.5 but they are over 2 grand where I could probably do this for $700.
Cheers, Rob

Haha thanks mate, nah its still going fine as far as I know, but I don't trust it. I'm pretty much going to run it the same as the tigerz but with air free spool using an air ram.
And... I'll see YOU at easter, I'll be the drunk one on saturday arvo if you want anymore heckling.

xp9.5b brandnew $1735

i would hot up a avenger mako tds 9.5 or tds 12.0 as they have the best freespooling mechanism with near zero drag on the winch drum
and also avenger sell air freespools for them and im sure they use a 20spline shaft the same as warn do on their motors so you could
probably run a 6hp motor . the mod these up in england a bit .

Geez that xp9.5 is cheap. That avenger is interesting and I like it, but for the price I think you are probably better off building a warn, mainly for parts availability. Just looking at it then and from what I can see a M8000 has a ratio of 216:1 which would be pretty bloody slow, then I looked at an M6000 and it had 156:1. Is there a difference between the two other than the gearing? Could you just drop a planetry gear out of the M8000 or would a 6hp running 24v not be enough poke, or could I put a 6hp motor on the M6000 and would it hold up to the weight of the cruiser?

Yeah we wired the solenoid with 24v instead of 12v it welded itself and pulled a tree clean over.
Cheers pickles, I'll send ya a text now.

Ok, so there's an update on this. I ended up getting a second hand highmount. I've already got air freespool and a 6hp motor coming, there are a couple of mods which i think I need to do being bracing and the pin near the motors needs to be held out with an R clip? Can somebody show me some pics of these mods, I've googled and failed and Im a complete winch novice so bare with me.
