Hey all, just wondering if there's a test you can do on a waterpump before pulling it out? Warmed up I can't see much movement in the filler neck of the radiator, even with revs. Tested thermostat on the stove, radiator only 12 mths old and still can't seem to get the bottom hose hot. Overheating on steep climbs on hot days. Last night I give it a hard time up and down hills for bout 30 min without overheating but get home and check bottom hose, and she's cold... Any info appreciated.

Bottom will naturally be cooler than the top, but shouldn't be stone cold. Are you getting pressurisation in the cooling system? You could always remove the thermostat then remove the top hose and add a garden hose feed to the radiator to feed the engine to see if it's pumping water.

Na bottom hose and thermostat housing was pretty cold, yet the block right next to the therm housing was roasting. When I got home from the hot laps last night there was no pressure in the system, gauge was at running temp and had been for half an hour, and the heater didn't seem to be quite as hot as i thought it should have been. Should I be able to see a good flow of water past the filler neck at high idle? Cheers

Hey mate I'm not 100% on this but it would rise over the cap when the thermostat is closed and revving the engine thanks to a backlog of pressure through the system but I've never done that to test the water pump.
Easiest way to test is to squeeze the upper radiator hose at operating temp and rev the engine. You should notice an increase in pressure in the hose.
Medium way is to remove thermostat and top radiator hose then trickle feed (don't let hose pressure make up for the pump pressure) a hose and watch for a good volume of water to be coming out.
Hard way is to just pull it off and inspect for corrosion and broke fins.
Good luck!
