tricky one, clonking rear end!

When I coast, to a stop, my rear end shakes quite violently through the drive train. I thought it only happened when under brakes but that was not the case today. ANy thoughts?
The diffs have supposdly been rebuilt, and all the bushes are nolathane, and tailshafts, and slip joints have been redone.

There is a thought - ususally people run all rubber (me included) they seem to give better handling - in rovers you only tend to use nolathane when you have oil or p/s fluid p*ssing all over them.
May or may not be your problem look at your rear a frame ball joint.

check you A-frame ball joint
... if not that then check you A-frame bolts to the chassis .

I get that on occasions, usually in stop start traffic delays/crawling following hard wheeling.
Once the only thing I could find were bolts needed tightening in uni flange of rear drive shaft. They weren't so looses that you could detect play easily.
But it has happened since (not regular) and the bolts are tight and the a-frame ball joint is a new maxidrive unit.
First off though follow the other suggestions - you might need to use a good lever to find the play.

Have you adjusted the handbrake recently?An over adjusted handbrake can cause those symptoms.

Another thought is that the rear pinion nut may have loosened if its a Salisbury or Disco, or that the diff rebuilder overpreloaded the pinion bearings on assembly and the outer one has burnt out. That will cause noise and vibration on a trailing throttle(overun,coast etc}
