1985 Toyota 4Runner - What is this box?

Hello,

I took this box off the 4runner. It was sitting on the passenger side engine bay. I noticed it was burnt out and my mate who owns it has got another one to replace
and I'm not to sure if I should replace this so I'm here to find out what that box is and should I replace it with the new one or it has to be the same box as the original?.

On the left - Original - 3y motor / on the right - Replacement - 4y motor (both came out of 1st gen 4runners)

Thank you very much

Hello,

It's a voltage regulator as I've checked on Google. So the last question remains. Can I use 4y voltage regulator on a 3y motor as it wouldn't matter or it does?

Thank you

yea prob not, melting all the alternator wiring isnt very cool.
plugs are different anyway so not just a matter of pluging it in.
