Have recently sold my rover and was looking at replacing it with a cruiser and in particular the hdj100r.
I have noticed however that I can get a VDJ200R with the same or less k's for about the same price (and in some cases cheaper) than the 100 series.
So is the 100 that much better than the 200 or is it there is a bunch of owners out there deluded about what their cars are worth and would a 200 be a better purchase.
The primary off road purpose of the vehicle would be for touring/camping with some easy/medium bush work. It's not going to be a double diff locked bush truck like my rover.

I went through exactly the same thing 12 months ago, I wanted it for towing and touring too and knew it would do desert trips and cape york in its life.
I talked to a few well known diesel mechanics in NSW and they all said stick with the 100 series if you want to do any remote touring as they are seeing quite a few of the v8 diesels with major bills after picking up poor fuel in remote areas (over 10g for pump and injectors).
Common comments were if it was just for towing and around town the 200 was fine, but for remote touring they'd be sticking with the HDJ100 - in the end thats whats I did.

yeah id agree, but theyre is options like aftermarket fuel filtering systems like water watch, christies engineering in melbourne?
for the high tec diesels these days, theyres even a funnel been made to screen out bad fuel..before you even put fuel in the tank.
many people on here ive read are getting awesome fuel economy that would make me go the v8 than the 1HD FTE, but i just love that motor too much.
and as you said the repairs on having dirty fuel through your engine would make me spend good money on a proper filter setup that will hopefully catch it before it does damage.
soo id go the v8 but spend money on a better fuel filter setup.

so how many km's is too many. I know it is like asking how long is a piece of string (but there is an answer) I've seen a couple of well kitted 100's but they have 230 - 250,000 km. There are others around with about 150,000 km and even one or two down at the 100,000 mark. So adding up the cost of F&R bars, roof racks, suspension, draws etc - say 10K is the value of this going to be overtaken by additional maintenance because the car has done an extra 70,000 km?
How long is a piece of string? Twice the distance from the centre to one end.
