Have searched but no luck...

On a mates Sierra (approx 92' 1.3L), he can turn the steering wheel about half a turn before the steering box slack seems to go, then turning the wheels..!

Can you adjust the steering box to get rid of the slack??

How can you do this? Is it one of the bolts on the top of the box?

Or is his steering box shagged?

Any help/advise would be great!

Hi Dave,

On the top of the box, you'll see a nut with a thread sticking thru it. The thread has a flat split in the top.

All u need to do is loosen the lock-nut with a 12mm spanner, then give the thread in the middle a half turn at a time. After each tightening, rock the steering wheel to the extent of the slack "zone" and watch for movement of the front wheels.

Be careful that you don't over-tighten it, as you'll find that the steering may not return to centre, and/or you'll damage the steering box.

You'll find that it may be easier to take the grille off to access the steering box, which was certainly the case with mine, which had air conditioning.
