cummins 6bt to a patrol 5 speed manual box

im just looking in to and sourcing out ideas for my work ute, im sick of the patrol 4.2 td its out dated, gutless and slow, thirsty and runs hot in summer when loaded up with work tools, it has aftermarket intercoolers and turbos in it.
ive seen 2 cummins 6bt engines in a 60 & 80 series cruisers. so it can be done but with a 2 inch lift. ive seen and driven a duramax in another gu patrol and was very impressed. but im more so interested in an older version of a cummins 6bt little electronics and will chug along all day with little effort, easy to fix (diesel fitter)
basically does any one know how much torque or hp the patrols 5 speed box it good for. im not after huge power but the cummins would be an ideal motor for what im after
cheers

First let me say that i'm a fan of the cummins motor. Especially the P pumped 12v in the pre 1998 models
BUT
As i'm sure you're aware, they are a massively heavy motor. I mean freakin huge, and the height makes them difficult as well. They're really suited to bigger vehicles in my opinion. Just because it "could" fit in a particular vehicle doesn't necessarily make it a great choice - even with motor as good as the 6BT.
I know it doesn't answer your question about gearbox strength but i feel it has to be said.
I do know of at least one person running a patrol box behind a big block in an F350. It gets hot but has held together. Perhaps an oil cooler would be a good option

How about an Isuzu 6bd1T or 6bG1t?

You can get the patrol box built...at a cost of ~$12k
Unsure on torque before and after though.

what about a 1HDFTE motor out of a toyota.
put aside all the nissan vs toyota crap and look at the basics.
its good strong reliable motor. options of auto or manual.
plenty of power. local support for service, repairs and diagnostics.
doesnt run hot. will do highway speeds easy as well as low speed.
NVH levels are brilliant .
cummmins motors are bloody noisy and vibrate heaps.
Duramaxs are good for outright power and torque but there a big motor that take up alot of space in the engine bay and under the car. no space for 2nd battery under the hood etc. parts gotta come out of the states

u would just run the dodge automatic.. built allison and that way you have no drama's. You would probably have to move the patrol box backwards and remount it as id imagine the 6bt would be a bit longer then the td42..Mad idea but mate.. I have a 2001 f250 and when its time to upgrade motor. ill be heading in that direction. if you want a suggestion for an engine conversion, the engine thats running in my ute now is a mwm sprint. 4.2 diesel turbo intercooled. standard they make 130kw and massive amounts of torque. i just upgraded the turbo with gt2860 and more diesel should hopefully be pushing 150-160kw. In my opinion they shit all over nissan td42 and landcruisers greatest 6's

You haven't taken it to the right people then. They go hard with the right work done. Very hard. Do some searching.

There were at least two 80 series in NZ with 6BD1T's in them. Great tow vehicles. IMO the Isuzu B series are better engines than the Cummins B series.

1HDFTE are a brilliant motor and are over priced, and im not buying a land cruiser, there ugly, uncomfortable and have no leg room and ride like &*&^% i have had a 78 series before, if im going to go to the effort in doing an engine swap why not do one that is worth while.
those mwm sprint engine my current boss has one in his 02 f250, he regularly gets better fuel consumption as well as well has having far more balls.

yeah mate there an unreal little 6cyl. my father recently purchased one with diesel gas. and it hauls arse!! just a stock motor goes hard in a truck that weighs over 3tonne. be good to see how they would go in a patrol or landcruiser
