so how much will it cost to purchase a stinger bar and a cage?

Posted: Mon Jul 19, 2004 8:35 am
by redzook
why does the cage go over targa bar? (i think thats what it is called?) so u cant run a soft top?

are you goin to retain the rear coils?

G'day Guys

The zook was getting finalised and probably will for some time, but heh thats the fun side of customising. The photos were taken when we were measuring up the Procomp shock lengths.

Sharp eyes around, someone was correct about the drive shalf it is missing in the front. There is a custom one now since the pics were taken, we are also likely to make a rear one in the future to match the rear 80s HP but for now its cool.

The bar is a high mount winch bar and we made it so we need to cut a small amount of the front grill away to ensure good approach. It is a prototype but I am very happy with it. In the future we may make some mods just so we can fit the intercooler in the front and out of the engine bay.

I have LED lights I got from Narva but at the moment I am not driving the car daily so they are not connected up.

I know there was a question about the spring but I am not sure of the question, but i think you are asking would I change to leaf, and there is no way I would go back, because of my back.

I do get Calmini products through Spidertrax, basically because Tom (Spidertrax) and Steve (Calmini) have such a good business relationship I get better prices through Tom than if I approach Calmini alone (Oz is still a small market for Calmini but we are hoping and expect to change this). You can PM or contact me or Matt on 02 45879811 and we will help you in everyway we can.

The Cage had to be made to meet Mr MMM so we could still compete in the XWCC series. I am tool tall to have the bar go directly behind my head without breaking the driver clearance specs, besides i reckon it looks a mile better. Unfortunately, competition rules are conradicting each other so we tried to fit within all the regs which meant we had to compremise on some of the this we wanted to do, but heh that what you have to do to enter comps. My preference was for a Exo chassis mounted cage but Mr MMM would not allow it even though CAMS rules were OK with it.

I will make a list of all the mods and fabrication done and post it up next time I have a chance. Some of you guys will have to forgive me with the internet etiquette I am still a new and computer illiterate. I have a website being built at the moment which will have listings of all the products I import and the products Matt at M&M makes, so hopefully some of you will visit it. We are also taking pics of all the truck built buy M&M just so people can associate a truck with the builder.

Cheers
Sean

PS any question I can help with I will try.

So if allow 150 MM head clearance I shouldn't have any issues entering any competitions??

by Mczook
G'day All

BAD JuJu was correct it had to be 150mm from the back/above drivers head which includes the helmet. We could of jammed it in but it would have been a bit of touch and go so rather leave it up to Mr MMM to say no go, we put it above.

And, at the end of the day I was glad it was a bit higher (more room for the fat pennut head) and it look better. The small problem was I had to get a extra strip in the soft top. However, the kids cant sit in the back anymore so now I am going to change to a bikini top.

Cheers

Schmick barwork man, do you do stinger bars for Jeeps ?

Posted: Mon Jul 19, 2004 5:50 pm
by Mczook
Hey Goat Lover - Gordo

Matt makes the all the bars to suit the customers 4be. You probably wouldnt need the roll cage to go over the B pillar though. I am sure all the barwork would look just as mad on a jeep regardless of what model, especially the stinger bar.

Hey Guys

No it is all custom. The rear:

1) has two lower arms and 1 upper arm with custom M&M swivel joint. To ensure the diff doesnt move around too much it has a combo of a Spidertrax & M&M adjustable panhard.
2) the rear diff housing is a Bundera (shaved and gussetted) unit with offset pumkin running a 4.1 LandCruiser HP centre and full Detroit locker,
3)The body sits on Vitara wagon springs using the original Vitara bump stop and the springs sit in the original bundera coil cups,
4) if you look close the lower arms hang from GQ arm mounts.

The Front:
1)Front housing is a bundera unit (shaved and gussetted) with again 80s LC 4.1 centre and a Detroit Truetrac,
2)the diffs are attached with 80s radius arms for strength & stability which scarifices some wheel travel- may change in the future for a 5 link but as the truck is mainly setup for winch challenges the 80s arm will do the trick for now,
3) Custom M&M panhard keep the diff in place,
4)body sits on Vitara wagon HD springs with custom upper spring mounts & bump stop, the diff spring coil cup mounts are the original bundy ones.

I have some more photos i just gotta wait for my buddy to help me post them as I am hopeless with computer stuff. There is some other trick things we are running but once again need to get a buddy to take some more pic and when this happens Ill post them.

No rear steer but hey ya never know. I like the rear bar it came out well and its Fu$&^$@ strong too. Pitty my LED Narva lights didnt exactly fit!

Cheers

Your on the money raqmup no rear steer, however anythings possible, well if I had the money. We did a rear disc break conversion which we now have a full jig for. For my conversion we matched up some subaru calipars so I can run the hand brake off them too. I'll get some better pics so you guys can check them out.

Just trickin' my vit rear axels up too, with vit discs 'n carolla callipers- they fit nice! runnin' w/t sierra front and vit rear under my '85 sierra

white thing is old set up, coily is similar to my spring over set up, hi-steer 'n all, minus the coils- of course... watcha think? (steering mainly?)

by the way, the coily is faaaar from finished, it's not mine- just an example, roughly, of what mine will have on it
soz, just had to say that 'cause I caused a riot last time these pics were posted

G'day Guys

Sorry for the delay on prices, had to confirm with Matt.

Standard "Gonad's Gear" Stinger bars: from $660

"Gonad's Gear" Winch Stinger Bars: from $1050:
But if you want a bar like mine where there is 2 extra bolts & mounts on each chassis rail that will be Approx $250-350. In this case Matt drills 2 extra bolt holes in each chassis rail and then crush tubes them for extra strength.

"Gonad's Gear" Rear tube bars: From $550 depending on material used and vehicle

Roll Cages: from $1,250 for standard and go up depending on what tube material used and number of mounting points.

For quote on your vehicle best call Matt on 02 45879811

Cheers
Sean
