Matching 1KZ-TE (3.0L Td) to '84 hilux(3Y)

Found some import 1KZ motors (SURF) at the right price but they have Auto gearbox. What's the go with swapping to manual and which box? Will it bolt up to R151F gearbox like Aust. Hilux with 1KZ and if so which bell housing, flywheel?

Also what about matching up with G52 gearbox to keep a geardriven transfer case.

Engine to go into 84 Extra cab lux.

What is involved with removing the electronic 4wd selector from a late model 5speed?

I have no motor or gearbox/transfer so all options open.

PS One wrecker mentioned something about a "knock sensor" in the block of a Surf motor that gave him trouble swapping a manual to auto... I think. What is this and is it a hassle or is he full of $#@!

Have you got an RF151 box ???? I thought they were only in the US.

If you've got the R150 box which has the chain drive, there is bellhousing to match to the 1KZ, pretty common over here in NZ.

I have not got a motor or gearbox yet. According to Toyota Australia specifications the new hilux and Prado with 1KZ motors are bolted up to an R151F gearbox. Not sure though whether there is an adaptor available to change the chain driven transfer to gear driven on this gearbox. Looked at marlin but a bit confusing and cant quite work out the different splines.

Probably much easier to get an R150 and maybe change to gear driven transfer. Just need to work out where to find the bellhousing. Is it the same as for V6 4runner or is it only from 1KZ motors. Importers say the 3.0L surf with 5speed is hard to come by.

I'd say this adapter would suit an R151F aswell but you'd have to check.

If anyone has done this swap or knows about it I would be interested in hearing about how it went, any hassles and what was it all matched up with etc, mountings, gearbox, wiring drivshafts...
